Verimpact Participates in UN Ocean Conference in Nice, Contributing to the “Nice Ocean Action Plan” and the EU Ocean Pact
Nice, France – June 14, 2025 – Verimpact proudly participated in the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference for the second time with a dedicated delegation, reaffirming its commitment to advancing ocean sustainability, climate resilience, and marine biodiversity.
The high-level event, held in Nice, France, concluded with the unanimous adoption of the “Nice Ocean Action Plan”, a political declaration that underscores the critical role of the ocean in sustaining life on Earth and mitigating climate change.

The declaration – formally titled “Our ocean, our future: united for urgent action” – sends a strong message: the health of the ocean is in crisis, and the pace of action is far too slow to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water) or the wider 2030 Agenda. Verimpact joins global voices in recognizing the need for immediate, coordinated efforts to restore ocean ecosystems, reduce pollution, and promote sustainable ocean-based economies.

The outcome document highlights key issues that echo Verimpact’s priorities: the interlinkages between climate, ocean, and biodiversity; the threats posed by rising sea levels and plastic pollution; and the need for inclusive, science-based governance frameworks. It further emphasizes the importance of regional cooperation, traditional knowledge, and participatory fisheries management – principles Verimpact integrates into its ESG advisory and ocean-focused programming.

Verimpact's President and Co-Founder, Spyros Kouvelis, Board Member of the EU Mission Ocean and key co-author of the European Ocean Pact, also participated in the launch of the Ocean Pact and in events disseminating the EU Missions and the work the European Commission has been doing in support of climate and ocean resilience. He also welcomed the new project by the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute called Eonios.

The team also held consultations with three EU Commissioners, EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, and the EU Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall, and the Environmental Agency Abu Dhabi leading team.

“We are proud to have contributed to the UN Ocean Conference dialogues and support the global momentum for protecting marine ecosystems,” said Christina Deligianni, CEO and Co-Founder of Verimpact. “The adoption of the Nice Ocean Action Plan is a milestone – and a reminder that science-based, inclusive, and financially supported action must be at the heart of ocean governance.”

Verimpact remains committed to supporting public and private sector stakeholders in developing sustainable blue economy strategies, training, and ESG frameworks aligned with global ocean targets. As the next steps in implementing the Nice Action Plan and the EU Ocean Pact unfold, Verimpact will continue to collaborate across sectors and regions to help turn commitments into impact.
